Welcome
At SlapHappy Drums we strive to combine both worlds with a studio quality sound and an artists attention to detail. As a s4mall husband and wife business we are able to be hands on with every aspect of every drum we produce. We use a variety of softwoods such as hemlock, redwood, and cedar. The majority of the hardwoods we use are actually toungue and groove flooring that we have saved from being dumped. Each drum starts out as just a pile of wood. Checking for cracks, weak spots and imperfections, we inspect each peice of wood as we prep it to be cut into the finished shape. Once glued, each drum is planed, sanded, filed, route red, sanded, sanded, sanded, and varnished. We do cut, roll, and weld our own rings that we use to head the drums. Goat skin is our preferred type of head, either furred or bleached. However, we can use other types of skin such as cow or fish. Yes ...fish.

Once the head is stretched and dried we tune it up to get the maximum range of sound from bass tones to high pops and cracks. We enjoy what we do. Splinters, sawdust, blisters and all. We believe our enthusiasm is transferred to each person that owns one of our drums. From beginner to pro, we can make the right drum for you. Want something unique? Let us use an exotic wood or inlay your favorite design. We love a challenge. In the meantime we will slowly be taking over the world with drums ...... or at least Eugene, Oregon to start.
Thanks for visiting our site and have a SlapHappy Day.
